I’ve been intermittent fasting for over a year now, which means that generally speaking, I don’t eat lunch. When I do, it’s usually a) later than most people and b) smaller than a real lunch. Which means that an afternoon “snack” at Go Get ‘Em Tiger in Los Angeles was just the ticket.
GGET is a Los Angeles-based chain with an outpost in Los Feliz, not far from what is quickly becoming my favorite vintage clothing store. On a recent post-shopping pick-me-up trip with my sister, I tried the kale caesar salad, made with sourdough croutons and a house-made dressing.
While certainly flavorful, for me, this salad could have done with a bit more marinading/massaging. As it stood, I think it was just tossed, which is all well and good for romaine but didn’t quite soften the leaves of dinosaur kale enough.
My sister, who is always a phenomenal orderer, opted instead for this avocado toast with radishes, chimichurri, and microgreens. I’m a perennial mocker of avocado toast in restaurants. I mean.. it’s just toast with sliced avocado, right?
Wrong.
In this case, the acidic chimichurri elevated the simple combo into the ideal light lunch/late-afternoon snack.
And that toast is thick.
While the coffee at GGET is excellent, I opted for an iced turmeric latte made with macadamia nut milk. It has no added sugar but tons of spice: in other words, it’s exactly my kind of dessert.
